Hangover Square debuted at my MA Fine Art degree show in the ‘Purple Studio’ at the University of Leeds in 2022.

Writing my MA dissertation on tattoos and women—exploring how social class shapes perceptions of female tattoos, and how patriarchy and feminism have influenced women's decisions to get them—led me to create a project about a volume of my personal history: my tattoos. Most of my tattoos were done when I was quite young and don’t carry any deep, memorable meaning. Instead, they are artefacts that reflect my mindset and struggles at the time. Many of them were inked when I wasn’t in a great place emotionally, especially as a woman.

Hangover Square is a fictional map, with my individual tattoos marking locations, sprawling across the exhibition space.
