In creating the Llama Card Deck and conducting readings, I utilise Jungian archetypes and role-playing in fictional scenarios to bridge the meanings humans attribute to animals with individual human fortunes. In a 1933 lecture, Carl Jung described divination cards as "combining in certain ways, and the different combinations correspond to the playful development of mankind”, suggesting they "provide doorways to the unconscious and may offer a way to predict the future”. I tap into my unconscious to comprehend the relationship between my clients' questions and the content of the drawn Llama Cards. Clad in my witch's robe in front of my altar, both I and my “clients”—who are exhibition visitors—often forget that this is an artistic performance in a gallery space rather than an actual fortune-telling session.
